The measure sets data center parking at one space per peak-shift employee, a modest, staffing-based requirement that may avoid more burdensome general parking rules. It does not provide major incentives, and ordinary parking and loading standards still apply.

Restrictions & requirementsHide restrictions & requirements4
  • A data center must provide at least one off-street parking space for each employee on the peak shift. If a calculation produces a fraction, it counts as a whole space. The data-center parking ratio

  • Required parking applies when a new use is established or an existing use is changed or enlarged. If the change requires more parking, additional spaces must be provided; when the increase exceeds 25% of the spaces already provided or requires at least five additional spaces, whichever threshold is greater, the existing parking must also be brought into compliance, including surfacing. Parking applicability and upgrades

  • Parking areas must meet design requirements, including spaces of at least 180 square feet and 9 by 20 feet, paved surfaces subject to listed exceptions, and required accessible spaces for buildings designed for public occupancy. Parking design standards

  • A data center that receives or distributes materials or merchandise by tractor-trailer must provide loading berths based on gross floor area: none below 10,000 square feet; one from 10,000 to 49,999; two from 50,000 to 99,999; three from 100,000 to 160,000; and one additional berth for each additional 80,000 square feet. Berths must be at least 60 by 14 feet, with 15 feet of overhead clearance. Loading thresholds and berth dimensions

Benefits & exceptionsHide benefits & exceptions1
  • The zoning code defines data centers as facilities housing networked computer systems and telecommunications equipment for remote data storage, processing, and distribution, and sets a specific parking standard: one space per employee on the peak shift. The parking standard is stated in the data center entry.
